Jesus is fighting evil

Jesus is fighting evil

Maybe you have experienced a painfully harm done to you or others at one time. You've read about people, who have faced injustice. You've watched the albums, which depict people wronged by the war, e.g.. album "Child and War" or movies, which show the innocent accused, persecuted, the weak, oppressed, laughed at, etc.. You probably feel indignant about it. You are rebellious and want to fight injustice. You ask, what you must do as a Christian.

Jesus reveals, that his messianic task is to fight evil

In the Gospel according to St.. In Luke, we read about the presence of the Lord Jesus in the desert. "Full of the Holy Spirit, Jesus returned from the Jordan and was in the Spirit forty days [Saints] in the desert, where he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing in those days, and after they were over, he felt hungry. Then the devil said to him : «If you are the Son of God, tell that stone, that he may become bread ». Jesus answered him: " It is written : Man does not live on bread alone ».
Then he led him up the mountain, He showed him at once all the kingdoms of the world and the devil spoke to him : «I will give you the power and splendor of it all, for they are subject to me and I can turn them aside, who do I want. So if you fall down and worship me, everything will be yours ». But Jesus answered him : " It is written: Lord, To your God, you will worship and him alone you will serve ». He also led him to Jerusalem, he put it on the corner of the temple and spoke to him : «If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here. For it is written: I will command my angels about You, to keep you safe, and they will carry you in their arms, lest you accidentally hurt your foot against a stone ». But Jesus answered him : «It was said : You will not put the Lord to the test, His God ».
When the devil has finished all his temptation, he departed from him until a time " (Luke 4, 1-13). In this pictorial story, God reveals to us, that Jesus, the promised Messiah, came to earth, to fight evil. The story of Jesus' forty-day stay in the desert and the temptation of Satan alludes to the forty-year stay of the Jews in the desert, where they were tested, that is, temptation. Unlike the Israelites, Jesus overcomes the test and remains faithful to his Father. He puts God's word ahead of the demand for miracles, service to God above all hope of earthly rule.
Gospel of St.. Luke also teaches, that Christ will fight Satan throughout his life, and the final victory will be on the cross.

Jesus fought evil all his life

All the Gospels tell of Jesus' fight against Satan throughout his life. They show this struggle, when they talk about expelling Satans (by. Mk 1, 23-38 i Mk 5, 1-20), about healings, resurrections. For the Jews are sick, in death, and especially in possession they saw the effects of sin. Jesus fought against evil, when he did good and taught about the law of love.
The evangelists also narrate, that Satan continued to fight against the Messiah : he turned many people unfriendly to Jesus, he misled the Pharisees and scribes, and he blinded some to hate. He got Judas Iscariot, to hand over Jesus (J 13, 2), and even "entered into Judas" (Luke 22, 3).
When Jesus died on the cross, it seemed, that Satan has won. In fact, however, Christ overcame sin through his death and resurrection, death and satan. He achieved this victory as a representative of the people.
Complete victory over Satan will be revealed by Christ in the Last Judgment.

Our fight against evil

Through baptism, we are united with Christ. We also participate in the fight, which abides between him and the powers of darkness. Every baptized person has committed himself to baptism., that he will fight Satan, with his affairs and with his pride. This promise of the baptism of St.. we renew every year on the Easter Vigil.
On the first Sunday of Lent, during which the Church prepares us to renew the promises of baptism., we read about Jesus' fight against Satan, which goes on endlessly. With the words of this reading, God calls us too, that we, together with Christ, fight evil in ourselves and in the world.

How will I answer God ?

I will consider, are there no harmed people around me because of my fault?, offended, ridiculed, beaten etc.. What am I going to do this week, to make it less bad?
I will ask God for it, so that I can fulfill my promise to fight evil, at the baptism of St.. :
'Male Dozwól, Lord, take a position in the Christian struggle by fasting, that we may be strengthened with continence to fight against the evil one. Through Christ, Our Lord. Amen” (Ash Wednesday, prayer after sprinkling with ashes).
